Mental....
Apr. 10th, 2003 10:47 pmI'm pretty sure I need a break. Like, a good break. I have 100 hours of vacation time saved up. If I allot a week for July 4th, and a week in October, there's still time left! And I'll accrue more as time passes! So, once I get to a point where I _can_ take a break, I will.
That, you see, is the rub.
The new Copernicus arrived two days ago. It's an IBM eSeries server -- my first _real_ server, not just a workstation being used as as server. It will be dual-processor as well, although the second processor is back ordered. I did make a fool of myself with the IBM tech though, as I didn't know about using the Computer Management "Administrative Tool" to make the second disk usable. Serves me right.
So, of course, I'm using the fact that TrialDB was scheduled to go down anyways to switch over to the new machine. This is presenting me a lot of cool opportunities for things like, say, reorganizing the entire structure of the various folders. I'm also going to start backing it up.
I was going to try to have most of the TrialDB upgrade done by now, but then Charles discovered that, well, they (being Yale) hadn't managed to keep their production server in good shape -- several fixes that I've sent along haven't been applied, etc, so now I have to turn my timetable back, so that they have a chance to make sure that everything works. Of course, they only tell me this _after_ I go through all the .asps and update them.
Before I went to my podiatrist's appt this evening, I turned off both the old and the new Copernicii, so that I could move them around tomorrow morning. Then, on the way to the North End, I thought "hey! I've got Cygwin on that machine, and I've seen sshd as something that could be installed! I should stop by on my way back to yoga and set it up, so that I can work from home some". Then, once I got back to the office, I realized that it would take to long to set it up, I had to go to yoga.
The reason that I want to work from home is that, what with reorganizing everything, I need to look over every single program I have on that machine, and rewrite several of them to handle new locations. So I'll probably be working on Saturday.
Then, once the TrialDB excitement is over, there's all the stuff about applying for the new grant -- writing up that proposal.
And then, I have to look at the RS2 system, to figure out how it works -- unless Bruce manages to do something... I'd be happy to just get the modem...
And by that time, we're looking at the Steering Committee meeting. So maybe during May I can take a _long_ weekend...
